General Dynamics Awarded Production Contract for Unitary WarheadJuly 27, 2007 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has been awarded a $7.5 million contract by Lockheed Martin for the production of warheads for the U.S. Army’s Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) - Unitary. The GMLRS is an all-weather precision-guided rocket with increased accuracy that reduces the number of rockets required to eliminate a target. The system is equipped with a 200-pound class fragmenting unitary warhead designed and developed by General Dynamics and has a range of more than 60 km. The GMLRS Unitary warhead’s combination of Insensitive Munitions features and high near-field lethality fulfills the Army’s need for a soldier-safe, low collateral damage, affordable, long-range precision artillery munition.
