Hydra-70 Air-to-Ground Rocket System

The Hydra-70 unguided air-to-ground rocket is carried by the Army’s Apache attack helicopter and other U.S. military aircraft. Measuring 6 feet in length and 2.75 inches in diameter, it is used for area suppression of targets.

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is the sole produced of Fin and Nozzle Assemblies for the Hydra-70 Rocket System. In April 2002, Anniston celebrated production of its 4 Millionth Fin and Nozzle Assembly.

Stinger Missile

The Stinger is an accurate and lethal weapon against UAVs, helicopters, cruise missiles, and fixed wing aircraft. It is a lightweight fire and forget short range air defense missile designed for maximum lethality and survivability. Ground based units utilize Stinger for air defense missions in the Manportable Air Defense System (MANPADS) configuration or integrated on a variety of vehicles or ground mounts. Aviation units utilize Stinger for counter air missions on helicopters, fixed wing aircraft, and UAVs.

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems Anniston produces the folding panel and hub assembly that is used to stabilize the missile at supersonic missile speeds.

Zuni 5.0-Inch (130mm) Rocket System

The unguided Zuni Rocket was originally developed for both air-to-air and air-to-ground applications, but is currently used almost exclusively in the later role for area suppression of targets. Widely used during the Vietnam War by the US Navy and US Marines, Zuni unguided rockets with WP and HE warheads were used during the Gulf War for target marking by Marines F/A-18A and OV-10 FACs.

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is currently producing the folding fin and nozzle assembly that is used for aerodynamic stability of the rocket during flight. The rockets are fired from the all weather LAU-10 launcher, which can be used at speeds up to Mach 1.2.

Electronic Mechanical Actuator Systems

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is the industry leader in high performance, high power rate density, and aerospace qualified electro-mechanical actuator systems.

This high power density Electro-Mechanical technology is used in the Missile Defense Industry in a number of different applications. One area where these high power rate density actuators are extremely well suited intrgrate with Hot Gas Valve Actuators for Divert and Attitude Control Systems for solid rocket motors. The actuators are directly coupled with the pintles which provide the divert and attitude control of the solid rocket motor. In all cases, the actuators are an integral element of the solid rocket motor, and in many cases, the actuators are actually buried inside the rocket motor itself. General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems has developed a very compact linear actuator and controller with greater than 200 Hz bandwidth to support these applications.

Another missile defense application of General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems actuators is to control the thrust vectoring control of a rocket motor nozzle. Again, the high power density, high performance actuators are the choice of our customers due to ease of integration to the rocket motor. All said, power density, performance and custom packaging has provided our customers a thrust vectoring system suited to their requirements.

Programs that General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems has supported are Standard Missile, MKV, KEI, AIT, TAM, GMD and various booster programs.

Control Actuator Systems (CAS)

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is the industry leader in high performance, high power rate density, and aerospace qualified electro-mechanical actuator systems. With its heritage starting in 1975 by two visionary General Dynamics’ engineers, it has emerged as the premier developer of innovative and elegant patented designs satisfying the tactical and strategic missile arena.

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems has established itself as the industry gun launched projectile "go-to" supplier for control actuator systems. Versatron has developed a qualified gun hardened (all major components qualified up to 30,000 Gs), building block approach to solving the stringent performance, size, and low cost demands of the next generation smart munitions.

The same high power density Electro-Mechanical technology used in missile control actuators has proven valuable in the pursuit of compact actuators to control solid propellant using pintle nozzles. General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems has developed a very compact linear actuator and controller with greater than 200 Hz bandwidth to support these applications.

An extraordinary group of highly motivated, clever, and dedicated staff is the basis for General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems success in maintaining our leading edge technology.

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems can be your "cradle to grave" provider of Control Actuator Systems. The extensive experience developing unique solutions, followed by meticulous analysis, thru the System Design and Development phase and finally full-rate production capabilities is unchallenged in the industry. The ability to support any or all phases of a controls program marks GD-OTS apart from its competition.
