Launch Systems

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems designs and fabricates a variety of launch systems used to initiate flight in Missile Systems or provide assisted takeoff capability for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). These systems include gas generators, launch catapults, and rocket motors. Gas generators use pyrotechnics to rapidly generate a large quantity of gas, providing the thrust required to propel objects. Launch catapults use stored kinetic energy to similar effect. Launch rocket motors are used by missile systems to expel the missile from launch tubes, creating safety separation between the missile and launch platform before flight motors deploy.

    Control Actuator Systems

    General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is a premier developer, manufacturer and integrator of Electromechanical Servo-Control Actuation Systems for the United States Armed Forces, with a wide range of high power density servo systems with applications on land, sea and in the air.
    Control Actuator Systems Produced for:
    • Gun Hardened – CAS for multiple guided projectile programs sized from 155mm to 76mm, including the 155mm Excalibur guided projectile

    Rocket Motor Cases

    Rocket Motor Cases provide the pressure shell for propellant as well as the structural shell for the missile. General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems produces both metal and composite rocket motor cases.

    Pressure Vessels

    General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems has extensive experience in the design, development, qualification and integration of high-performance lightweight composite pressure vessels for aircraft, satellite, launch vehicle and missile platforms.

    Applications include military and commercial aircraft flotation and emergency power; missile control; launch vehicle and satellite propulsion subsystems.

    Launch Tubes for Military Applications

    General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems has years of experience designing, producing and testing high-performance composite launch tubes of various shapes and sizes. We have the ability to design to specification or build-to-print.

    Utilizing composites in the manufacture of rocket and missile launch tubes can reduce the weight of the system, maintain fatigue and corrosion resistance; and allow for sub-system integration (metallic, non-metallic, cables) as well as the use of complex surfaces.

    Structural Components

    General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems has decades of experience in the production of precision metal parts for a variety of missile applications. Our operations include “state-of-the art” precision machining, assembly and testing with a primary focus on complex, close tolerance, build to print metal parts, mechanical and electro mechanical sub-assemblies.

    At General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems our skill and expertise in the use of composite materials are found in key product areas such as aircraft, missile and space structures, including rocket motor cases, pressure vessels, fuselage structures, external fuel tanks, drive shafts and launch tubes.

    Composite Structural Component key capabilities include filament winding, precision fiber impregnation, resin formulation, design, analysis and developmental testing. Additional manufacturing processes include compression molding, hand lay-up, automated oven and autoclave curing, welding thin aluminum, machining, drilling, assembly, painting, high-pressure cycle and proof testing, radiographic inspection and ultrasonic inspection.
